The Soft That Stayed

My current series of paintings continues a thread from my red paintings from last year, which held space for contradiction—strength and vulnerability, stillness and tension. Red was grounding, a way to carry both at once. That process led me to ask: Where do you feel most at ease? The answer was nature.

These new works reflect care, rest, and quiet presence. I paint Black children not only because it’s personal, but because so many of our stories begin in tension. Here, I reimagine that beginning—where nothing is performed, and softness is enough.
