Kɔkɔɔ- Red Series

Kɔkɔɔ began after spending time in Ghana and returning to the UK with a different understanding of myself. Being somewhere that felt familiar made me realise how much tension I had accepted as normal, and how deeply migration had shaped the way I moved through the world.

Red became a way of painting that feeling. It surrounds the figure, creating a sense of pressure that cannot be separated from the body. Although the paintings begin with specific people, they speak to a shared experience of carrying what cannot always be seen.
