The Soft That Stayed 2025

This series continues a thread that began with my red paintings. Those works explored the idea that two things can be true at once: strength and vulnerability, stillness and tension. I used red for its grounding presence, a way to hold those contradictions within a single space. Over time, the question shifted. I began asking, where do you feel most at ease? The answer was nature.

These paintings reflect care, rest, and quiet presence. They focus on Black children not only because the subject is personal, but because so many of our stories begin in tension. This series reimagines that beginning. Nature becomes a place where nothing needs to be performed, where softness is possible, and where simply existing is enough.
